The Arabic Network for Human Rights Information Website Blocked in Egypt

The blocking of websites still continues with banning The Arabic Network for Human Rights Information (ANHRI) website in Egypt.

Also, the blog of Ahmed Gamal Ziada, a writer for Masr Alarabia, researcher, and photojournalist, has been blocked preventing readers in Egypt from accessing his blog.

Since 24 May, several websites that are licensed to work in Egypt have been blocked. According to the Association of Freedom of Thought and Expression (AFTE), a total of 133 websites, including VPN sites, has been blocked.

The blocked VPN sites are Tunnelbear,  Cyberghost, Hotspot Shield Elite VPN (Hsselite), Tigervpn and Zenvpn. Independent news website “Mada Masr” and the privately-owned Daily News Egypt among many others are still blocked.

The Egyptian authorities haven’t commented on the ban.

ANHRI is the leading website in the Arab world covering human rights issues in Egypt and the MENA region. Through a strong network of lawyers and researchers, ANHRI publishes statements and reports on freedom of expression and freedom of the press.

The blockade measure violates Article 57 as it stipulates the freedom of media and public’s right to know and to access information.
