Millennium Triathlon: Royal Army of Oman teams, Bahraini athletes dominate

Muscat: The Royal Army of Oman (RAO) won both the team events while Bahraini athletes dominated the individual competitions in the Millennium Triathlon organised in Al Musannah on Friday.

The Millennium Resort Musannah hosted the inaugural Millennium Triathlon in association with Muscat Triathlon Club and Tri.ME sporting events with participation of around 120 triathletes from around the world competing in two different categories — Sprint and Olympic, for both individual and team honours.

The Royal Army of Oman claimed first place in both Sprint and Olympic categories for teams, while Bahrain’s Omar Ali and Abdullah Attya took first places in the individual Sprint and Olympic categories for men.

First places in the individual Sprint and Olympic categories for women went to Bahrain’s Rana Al Alalawi and Stephani Slier of the United Kingdom.

“I was happy to be a part of this great event and part of developing the Omani community to involve itself in more types of sports and activities that help us set Oman as a destination for sports like triathlons and triathletes from around the world,” said His Highness Sayyid Numair bin Jaifer Al Said, who awarded the medals to the winners.

In a statement by Ahmed Al Falahi, Chairman of the Muscat Triathlon Club, he said: “We organised this event to introduce the sport of triathlon to the Omani community and introduce Oman to triathletes from around the world, and plan for more of these events that not only engage the Omani community with triathletes but set Oman as an ideal destination for sporting tourism.”
