Gilas women dominate Lebanon to take home bronze

Gilas Pilipinas Women dominated Lebanon, 90-68, to bag the bronze medal in the FIBA U16 Women’s Asian Championship Division B at the Prince Hamza Sports Hall in Amman, Jordan on Thursday night (Philippine time).

Gabriella Ramos led the way for the Philippines with 20 points on top of five rebounds and three steals, as the Filipinos bounced back from a horrible 73-88 loss to Samoa in the semifinals.

Kristan Yumul found her touch back as she also fired 20 points on a 7-of-10 shooting including 6-of-8 from beyond the arc. She also added six assists and two rebounds.

Naomi Panganiban added 16 points, nine boards, and three assists for the Philippines.

Leading Lebanon by just seven at the half, 44-37, the Philippines pulled away in the third quarter as the Filipinos limited the Lebanese to just 11 points while scoring 28 to seize a 67-48 advantage.

Gilas did not let up in the final period and led by as many as 32 points, 81-49, en route to the triumph.

After shooting an abysmal 26-of-92 (28.3 percent) from the field including 9-of-41 (21.9 percent) from the three-point area in the semis, the Philippines bounced back by shooting 31-of-70 (44.3 percent) from the field including 11-of-24 (45.8 percent) from downtown.

Angelina Bado paced the Lebanese side with 19 points and five rebounds, while Nour Labban backstopped her with 12 markers, eight caroms, four assists, and three steals.

Eliza Khoury chipped in 11 points and six rebounds while Maygen Naassan put up seven points, five assists, and three boards.
