Sloane Stephens coming to New York for World Team Tennis

Sloane Stephens will play one match with the New York Empire this summer, The Post has learned.

Stephens, the 2017 US Open winner who’s currently ranked No. 7 in the world, will play for the Empire in it’s July 18 home match against the Orange County Breakers at Cary Leeds Center for Tennis & Learning in the Bronx.

That match will represent the first of back-to-back nights when tennis fans will have the chance to see two of the top American players in the women’s game. Venus Williams will play with the visiting Washington Kastles the following night, on July 19.

Stephens will be playing her fifth season in World TeamTennis. She previously played for the New York Buzz in 2009, the Washington Kastles in 2014 and the Philadelphia Freedoms in 2017 and 2018.

The Empire tennis fans will have the chance to see top ranked American men’s player, John Isner, play for the Empire on July 14. U.S. Davis Cup Team Captain Mardy Fish will return for his third consecutive season with the Empire. Fish will play matches at Cary Leeds on July 29 and 30.
